Tummy Tuck - Before & After
A tummy tuck (abdominalplasty) is a good option for many patients who struggle with a protruding stomach and or loose, overhanging fat and skin. Many women struggle with these after pregnancy or drastic weight loss. Once the skin or muscles have been stretched due to similar events, it is impossible to regain the flat, tight stomach you desire.
During a tummy tuck procedure, excess fat and skin is removed from the abdomen area. Stomach muscles are then tightened to flatten and shape the overall stomach appearance. Tummy tucks are very common, low-risk procedures.
These procedures are often performed with liposuction to remove skin and fat from the hips and other surrounding areas. Each patient and procedure is treated individually. Meeting with a qualified plastic surgeon to discuss your plastic surgery goals is the first step toward deciding whether a tummy tuck is right for you.
Mini tummy tucks are also available for those who prefer a less invasive form of abdominoplasty. These procedures are used specifically used to remove excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen area. This often does not require repositioning of the naval or placement of a drain. Recovery time after a mini tummy tuck is usually quicker than the traditional procedure.
An incision is made inside the navel and frequently in the pubic hairline area, where the scar is not likely to show. There is no pain during the operation, although there may be some discomfort afterward which can be treated with pain medication. In most cases, there is some bruising around the area where tummy tuck has been performed. In some patients, there is no visible bruising at all, in others bruising can be considerable.
Similar to bruising, patient recovery can vary. Generally, the more extensive the procedure, the longer the recovery. Some patients are able to return to work after several days.
