A tummy tuck (abdominalplasty) is a good option for many patients who struggle with a protruding stomach and or loose, overhanging fat and skin. An incision is made inside the navel and frequently in the pubic hairline area, where the scar is not likely to show. There is no pain during the operation, although there may be some discomfort afterward which can be treated with pain medication. In most cases, there is some bruising around the area where tummy tuck has been performed. In some patients, there is no visible bruising at all, in others bruising can be considerable. 

Similar to bruising, patient recovery can vary. Generally, the more extensive the procedure, the longer the recovery. Some patients are able to return to work after several days.
